This seems like almost the reenactment of what happened in the original 2024 timeline. I mean in the original timeline of 2024, The Flash vanishes in crisis. That would mean in the original timeline, Reverse Flash and Flash were fighting and both used their super speed and ended up in year 2000. Then only this time, Barry Allen vanishes in 2024 but that wasn't reported on newspaper. His reason of vanishing is because of the Cobalt Blue radiation that would teleport Barry from 2024 and have him sent in 2000. Only this time, Barry was able to return back to 2024 due to that Cobalt Blue radiation. Not everything about the 2024 was played based on the original timeline. So either way, 2024 Barry did leave 2024 timeline and went to year 2000. Barry did tried to stop Eobard Thawne from killing his mother. Original Flash and current Flash did leave 2024 in an attempt to stop Eobard.
